Building Zimbabwe's Entrepreneurial Ecosystem, Together

Entrepreneurs create new products, industries and jobs. Helping them succeed requires an ecosystem that connects ideas with finance, markets, skills and supportive policy.

Across the world, successful industrial economies are built on strong entrepreneurial ecosystems—networks of businesses, investors, universities, innovation hubs, policymakers and development partners working together to help enterprises start, grow and scale. According to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), countries with well-connected entrepreneurial ecosystems are more likely to generate high-growth businesses, commercialise innovation and create sustainable employment. For Zimbabwe, strengthening this ecosystem is an important step towards building the next generation of industrial enterprises.

Recognising this opportunity, CZI partnered with the National Venture Capital Company of Zimbabwe (NVCCZ) to establish the Zimbabwe Entrepreneurship & Startup Ecosystem Forum (ZimESEF). The Forum brings together organisations from across the entrepreneurship landscape to strengthen collaboration, identify systemic barriers to enterprise growth and develop practical solutions that improve the environment for startups and SMEs. Rather than working in isolation, participants are building a shared agenda that supports innovation, investment and industrial development.

One of the key discussions at the Forum focused on the Zimbabwe Entrepreneurship Exchange (ZEEX), a digital platform designed to connect entrepreneurs with investors, financial institutions and other sources of capital. Participants explored how digital technologies, including blockchain, can improve investment readiness, broaden financing options and create more transparent pathways for businesses seeking funding. The discussion also highlighted that technology must be matched with capability development, ensuring that entrepreneurs, investors and ecosystem partners have the knowledge and skills to make full use of these new opportunities.

For CZI, entrepreneurship is an important part of Zimbabwe's industrial future. By convening ZimESEF and bringing together the institutions that shape the business environment, the Confederation is helping build an ecosystem where innovative businesses can access the partnerships, finance and support they need to grow into tomorrow's manufacturers, exporters and industry leaders.
